We mostly only buy toys at birthday or Christmas, and some at Easter. My dd is 7 and she likes My little pony, Breyer Horses, and American Girl Dolls. She also enjoys games and Littlest Pet Shop as well as dinosaurs and dragons. Sometimes she will play with Barbies.
I only buy her toys at her birthday and Christmas. Maybe occasionally a toy at another time, but she has so many I don’t see the point.
My daughter is 7. She’s mostly into crafty things. She has lots of beads, pipe cleaners, string, paper, glue, crayons, markers, etc. Those are mostly the things I see her playing with. She also occasionally plays with a toy pirate ship she has and polly pockets.
Birthday, Christmas, all major holidays, sometimes as a surprise. She is 8, and she loves books, Lego, Littlest Pet Shop pets, Webkinz, $1.50 aisle at Michaels (she is creating a scrapbooking stash), stickers, Pixos (look it up), DS games, dollar store junk, various items from Claire’s, and anything Tinkerbell.
Rarely. One of my daughters (9), is really into her American Girl dolls, and has quite a collection of dolls, clothes, AG books and accessories. We don’t buy most of them, relatives get her AG stuff by default for her birthday and holidays, and she makes a lot of doll clothes herself.
We don’t buy electric toys both because they hinder creativity and because if we had too many of them, the noise would be deafening. They do fine without them, they occasionally get them for presents and a week later it’s forgotten about. I think it’s because there’s always someone for them to play with and they don’t rely on toys as much, and we don’t often buy new toys because we have older kids who got toys new and those have just been passed down through the years.
Even at holidays, toys aren’t really prominent. Building kits, cooking gear, board games, computer games, dress up, clothes, hair accessories, arts and crafts things, and books are the bulk of it. We do buy that stuff regularly throughout the year, but it’s a rare thing that we buy a toy-toy.
I buy my daughters toys for their birthdays, Christmas, and occasional treats such as a vacation, outstanding behavior, etc. I have 4 daughters, twins and quads, (Quads 2 boys and two girls). My twins are 8 (almost 9!!!!!!!) and my quadletts are 4. My eight year olds and into arts things, like paper, colors, pipe cleaners, etc. They also like little dolls and stuffed animals.
