34 weeks pregnant. want to buy the carseat and stroller but need advice?

October 4, 2010 By Pilar Estefana

Hi everyone. Im 34 weeks along and need to buy my baby’s carseat and stroller but not sure whats the best option. I will most likeyly get it from babiesRus but not sure if i should go for a Newborn-toddler car seat, just a newborn carseat, or a travel system stroller (it has the carseat and stroller as a set). what have you bought or what do you recommend?

I don’t know how I would’ve lived without my daughter’s travel system. It’s great. The carrier is wonderful for going out to eat, or going over to visit family so she had a save spot to sit and play. The stroller is large (it took up the whole trunk), but wonderful when they’re tiny because you can just move them from the car to the stroller without waking them up. My daughter is 6 months old now, and getting heavy to carry in the carseat. She’s starting to sit up well, and we’ll soon probably ditch the infant seat and move to a rear- and forward-facing convertible carseat, since she’ll be able to sit in a restaurant high chair. We recently bought an umbrella stroller that we keep in the trunk for quick trips, but I still use the large one for day outings. We are a one-car family so I push the large stroller for errands since it has lots of storage.

go with the travel system , its a lot easier and later on down the line you can buy a toddler seat for him/her . But check out your car first before buying anything , make sure the care seat will fit right in your car . I made that mistake and the day we left the hospital my babies head just kept falling foward , finally we figured out it wasnt the car seat but it was the actual seat and we had to go out and buy another car seat that fit into our car right , now we have spent double the money and we cant return the other car seat !!!

Plus the combos are really cute when they match and can be very convenient .

If you are going to buy from Babies R US, then go online and look at travel sets and then the seperates and read peoples reviews….you are going to have to have a newborn.infant carseat regardless….We went with the cherry blossom travel system based on reviews and what we liked…..

I always go online and look up the exact item i want at babies r us and read the reviews that are under the item and see if its worth getting…If it has all bad reviews obviously you know to not go with that choice!

I got one of the travel systems and it was super nice! If they baby fell asleep while we were going somewhere we just grabbed her carseat and put it straight into the stroller and she didnt even know. I still use the stroller part and she is 2! It is a lot more cost effective to buy it all together than buying a stroller and a carseat and then they dont even work together.

Stroller/Seat combos are VERY convenient! Especially because they can be so pricy if bought seperately. But honestly I don’t like the carseats that come with them. I love the Britax infant carrier, they’re so safe! And to me safety is number 1. The convertible carseats can harness a baby as small as 5 lbs, but I like the convenience of being able to just keep my baby in his carrier instead of holding him. It just depends on if money is an issue or not.

I have an evenflo aura travel system as well as an evenflo triumph deluxe convertible…. we have 2 vehicles, the convertible is in our big truck and the infant seat goes in the midsize sedan :) I rarely carry her in the infant seat, too bulky.

OMG do not get a travel system. If I ever have another baby you can bet I will not be getting a travel system. FORGET that! You always have your hands full if you use one of those stupid things. I mean, you have to lug it everywhere with you. It’s always bumping into things. It’s horrible. You will feel like you are carrying a ton when you use one of those. It is supposed to be convenient but to me it has been SO inconvenient. I would rather my baby just had a convertible car seat that she could use until she was about 100 lbs because it would stay in the car. Someone bought her travel system for me so I do use it and will continue using it until she is 25 lbs but most of the time now I just leave the stupid carseat in the car and carry her by herself. MUCH easier that way.

Yes travel systems are nice, but VERY BULKY. It filled up the trunk of my sister’s huge car!.. I bought the Graco SafeSeat, and they make this stroller so its very light and compact unlike the other travel systems. They also jus make a frame-like stroller. So this way you get the easy travelsystem w/o all the bulk.. I prefer to use my daughter’s Chicco umbrella stroller now that shes older (8mo).. Its light, not huge like a Travel system stroller would be at this age.
