Ok i feel really dumb asking this since i already have one child but she was a winter baby. My son is due in 5 weeks(whoohooo 37 days to go) Do summer babies need blankets like winter babies do? Ive bought a few receiveing blankets and ive made one for him. Are there any special things that summer babies need? I would ask my mom or MIL but they both had all winter babies! your input would be appreciated!

Regardless of when a child is born, they lack temperatre control. A summer baby should have a light blanket. My midwife told me that you should put on a baby, as many layers as yourself + 2. Both my children are summer babies and I struggled to check them cool, rather than warm. We were getting days that were in excess of 38 degrees celcius, so my daughter was laying on the floor in just a nappy. Use your judgement, if your baby feels hot, take some clothes off, if cold, put some on. Always make sure your baby is dressed to go to bed, even if it is warm, and have a blanket, not only for security, but it may get cold during the night.

I just had my baby on April 3rd. On the warm days we just put a receiving blanket around her legs thats it, we dont cover her or anything.

MY DAUGHTER WAS BORN IN JULY AND WE JUST USED THE REALLY LIGHT RECEIVING BLANKETS AND THEY WORKED PERFECT. WE ALSO PUT HER IN ONSIES AS IT WAS COOLER THEN THE SLEEPERS. WHEN YOU ARE OUTSIDE OR IT IS TOO WARM. IF YOU ARE FINE IN WHAT YOU ARE WEARING THE BABY ONLY NEEDS ONE MORE LAYER THEN YOU IS WHAT HER PEDIATRICIAN TOLD ME.

You’ll want to use a blanket to block the wind since infants have a reflex to hold their breath when the wind is in their face. If it’s a steady wind your baby won’t be breathing properly.

summer nights can get pretty chilly as well. it wouldnt hurt to have a few blankets on hand for these days, not extremely heavy ones of course but something light would work well.

Receiving blankets will probably be fine. They will block any wind, rain, sunshine and be a great cover for nursing.

Hi–my daughter was a June baby, but that was three years ago, so I’m a little fuzzy. I can’t think of any summer-specific things that she needed, but you will definitely need blankets (for swaddling as well as warmth), though maybe lighter weight ones, and some long sleeved sleepers and onesies couldn’t hurt, especially if you have AC. Babies circulation is still immature, so you baby will likely have cold hands and feet for several months. My daughter did. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, labor & delivery!

My second son was born in July. We still had some heavy blankets just in case there ended up being some cold rain storm or something. To bring him home I believe I put him in a onsie/pant outfit with a cap and socks and I put one of the lighter receiving blankets on him. Newborns are not very good at regulating their body temps yet and they always say to dress the baby in one more layer then yourself. And you also have to keep in mind that in the summer, most places have the AC on and it could be too cool for baby. It is always best to error on the side of caution.

Yes summer babies need a few blankets. When your in a chilly airconditioned resturant they come in handy or when your breastfeeding in public.
Baby sunscreen
Hats to keep the sun out of their eyes
Lightwieght going out clothes (When we were at home I just kept my son in a onesie)
