This may sound a stupid question but my 9 month old baby has never had a baby quilt in his cot. we bought one of those blankets that he wears so he couldnt sufficate. But now hes pulling up in the cot alot and i fear one of them now would probably cause him to fall and hurt himself so im wondering weather its now safe to introduce a baby quilt into his cot. he does have a habit of pulling them over his face though so im a little worried. anyone know if this is safe now etc?

I used to mind a little girl who slept in a baby bag….she had cuts on her lips and bruises on her face all the time from climbing up and falling down in it. Her parents didn’t make the link between the two things! Oddly she had a pillow though.
Anyways, my point is when they are able to pull themselves up they are ready for a quilt or blanket. Nothing too heavy. If they can pull themselves up and move around, you don’t have anything to worry about, because is he is too warm, or the covers are on his face he can now take them off.
Make sure he has his diaper on well, and maybe put a onesie on him, because when they are not in the baby bag, they can really get at their diaper! When he is awake, go get him quickly, don’t let him get bored, or you might end up with brown walls fast!
I’m rambling, take some photos of your baby with his new quilt on, it is too cute.
Have fun sleeping

yes, you can use them now. He can pull them over his face, which means he also has the ability to pull them off his face if he needed to. Once they can lift their heads well, doctors say regular blankets are fine. My son has been sleeping with a quilt since age 6 months.

Yes you can but make sure you tuck the blanket into the matress, so he can’t put it over his head and this also lowers the risk of SIDS.

It is not recommended to use a quilt until 12mths,personally i have never used one until they have gone into their toddler bed,my 11mth old still has her cotlet, which is designed to be as warm as a quilt without any worries of the quilt, its fleece on one side and cotton on the other, she is at the stage of pulling it everywhere but never falls asleep with it on her face, they know to move it now i think,i got it from mothercare so go and have a look, hope this helps a little!

What part of "Don’t use a quilt/doona/comforter in your baby’s cot until at least 12 months of age" Do you not understand?

at 9 mo. your baby can remove the blanket off his face.
my baby was a winter baby, who hated that sleep bag, so i was covering her with blankets since she was 2 months old, and that was because she cried about everything and anything that bothered her… plus, i have a video monitor.
