I’ll walk in the rain by your side, I’ll cling to the warmth your hand, I’ll do anything to help you understand I love you more than anybody can. And the wind will whisper your name to me little birds will sing along in time, leaves will bow down when you walk by and morning bells will chime I’ll be there when you’re feelin’ down to kiss away the tears if you cry, I’ll share with you all the happiness I’ve found a reflection of the love in your eyes. And I’ll sing you the songs of the rainbow, the whisper of the joy that is mine leaves will bow down when you by and morning bells will chime I’ll walk in the rain by your side, I’ll cling to the warmth your tiny hand, I’ll do anything to help you satisfied I love you more than anybody can. And the wind will whisper your name to me little birds will sing along in time, leaves will bow down when you walk by and morning bells will chime…

My husband and I have had this as our song from the beginning. It describes so perfectly how we felt about each other from the first moment we met.

I used to sing this song to my son when he was a baby!

You know, until about two years ago, I thought that my mom had made this song up for me and my sister.
This song is really amazing, anyways. I love it- it just got so much power and innocence packed into it.

@pattypopping where can i listen to it? is it online?

From what I know, this song was written for John Denver’s son, bobby. It was the first song from John Denver that I was attached to. What a great song and the last part, with the young choir, was just like the topping in a cake, magical! ;)

who would not love this song!!!
puck57 says
@jmldspt JD did NOT have a son named Bobby. He has one son Zak who they adopted in ’74 and two daughters- Anna Kate also adopted with Annie, and Jesse Belle the youngest with Cassandra Delaney. This song is for an old girlfriend Bobbie who JD knew before marrying Annie. It’s one of his first ballads he wrote. It is a lovely ballad.

Everytime I am in Monterey and see that beautiful vast bay .. I think of him with sadness, and at the same time gratefulness that we had him for the time we did. JD lives on in a lot of hearts …

He was an amazing talent and will be missed for the gifts of the songs he wrote, the music industry had no idea what kind of talent John was. This is an amazing song i always wanted to learn guitar so I could sing it to my first born, but now I found out my wife is 6wks preg, I cant wait to watch the wonder in my childs eyes as they hear the music and show her the beauty of the dandylions for mommy lol.

This was the song I sang to my now 25 yr old baby boy thousands and thousands of times when he was a baby – I first heard it probably 15 years before I had a child and knew it was written for the one I would have someday. John Denver went way too soon – beautiful other songs too – this one holds my heart the most and J4BBL – I heard it on his album and have never heard on radio either. Peter, Paul and Mary do it too – but it is John D’s song for sure.

best eulogy I read when he died said simply “He made the critics snicker, and the rest of us sing”..I know people who claim to hate John Denver, but I promise you they know the words to most of his songs.

Only John could put these words together to express the love one feels for their child. He was one of a kind & should never be forgotten. I am passing his legacy on to my grandchildren. Miss him so very much & can only wonder what songs he is singing in heaven!
