i have to ask, how fast was the car going when it hit? And who was the cause of the accident?? The car he was travelling or the car that hit them?
Dawnkey says
I hope that you replaced your carseat after it was in the crash. I am glad to hear your baby is safe.

How does your son feel now?

My daught doesn’t like to ride in the rear facing seat in my Audi Allroad. She doesn’t like to sit in a booster, because “My cousins don’t have to” or “I’m not a little kid”. She wants to sit in the front seat and tells me, “my real dad lets me” sit in the front.
When I was in chiropractic school I learned. Every person in the car needs a belt. Children should remain rear facing as long a physically possible. Every child should remain in a properly fit seat for as long as possible.
BreeNathanNoah says
As long as his head is below the top of the car seat I have been told that they can stay rear-facing. The child needs to just bend their legs or let them travel up the seat back (note in the video when they show the crash test dummy in the rear-facing position, the child’s legs are bent up. Better a sore leg than a broken neck.
FantomLightning says
but did you see the pictures of the car i think that even had he been in a rear facing child seat he would have still sustained injuries maybe not to the same extent but still bad non the less
martharocks says
He wouldn’t have a broken neck had he been rearfacing. MAYBE he would have come away from the accident with broken legs/arms, but not his neck. Rear facing is 500% safer. Look it up.
Yes, you’re right Joel may have been injured in the accident whether or not he was rearfacing but what’s easier for a parent to pay? Hospital bills and physical therapy for a year? or casts for arms/legs? I think I speak for every parent when I say I’d rather have a child with a broken leg then a broken neck

Thats shocking that soo many people are not sure whats best way for there child to sit in a car. This should be made clearer for people, because i see a lot of kids sitting front facing, what a risk to take, this video is great, sorry to hear about your granson, hope he gets well soon, god bless

This brought tears to my eyes and first thing tomorrow I will be changing my car seats around. I have twins which are 19 months and I’m pregnant again…I can’t imagine the pain and suffering you went through…my heart goes out to you.
THANK YOU so much! You have saved a life with this story,Im positive of it…I had no idea that this sort of thing could happen *BIG HUGS* Thank you for sharing your very difficult story.
Lots of love and prayers go out to you and your family still.

I read your story on a different website. I’m so glad you posted this video. We need to get the word out to everyone. I was recently horrified to learn that despite my cautions, my granddaughter just turned her baby girl forward facing. She is 3 weeks shy of her 1st birthday and not yet 20 lbs. I can’t wait to show her this video!!!

@drparpart
You are the parent, you decide how they ride not the child.. this seems to be a common issue with parents using improper seats
*my daughter is 15 months 23lbs and still rear facing, because i watched this video while i was pregnant*
drparpart says
@mammaandrews I am a chiropractor and very concerned about the spinal trauma. My daughter is 9 years old and is getting “cool”. I bought the audi for the rear facing seat, so my kids could be protected up until age 9 or 10. Most of the kids at my daughter’s school are in an adult seat without a booster. The seat belt goes across the neck instead of the clavicle. Several German car makers produce wagons with rear facing seats that protect children up to 70 lbs..

Thank you for sharing your Beautiful Grandson’s story. I’m a firm supporter of keeping infants rear-facing as long as possible and I often share this video for people who consider me a ‘overbearing’ or ‘unrealistic’.

Thanks for the vid, very helpful. Sorry that the lesson had to come at such a price. I’d be interested in a list of sources for the stats in the video. I might do a little more research myself. I’m in the process of buying a seat and find it very frustrating. Car seat manufactures are incredibly vague and they seem to be more interesting in telling you about the sippy cup holder.
Thanks again.

God bless you for sharing your story. Between a friend and I, we have used your video to encourage 3 mothers and myself to place our children back ino rearfacing.

Thank you so much for this video. Because of this video I brought a car seat that is rear facing up to 45 pounds. It was a little more expensive but worth the safety. My boy is 11 months old. He kinda of looks like Joel. Hope your grandson is doing well. Just to let you know
I’ve shared this video with my friends and family.

Thank you for sharing this. God bless your family. It is because of stories like this that my boys are rear facing at 15 months until they can no longer be rear facing.

a rear facing is much safer then a front facing one

Thank you for the message, even though my youngest is 6 now and in a booster seat, I will always remember this video and be sure to put my future grandbabies in rear-facing seats only. God be with that sweet little boy–a true miracle.
