What a pity the bird wasn’t released where he was found. I’m sure the mother would have been waiting for him. Could the carers not give you advice so you could continue where the mother could see him? I imagine you could have constructed a nest (plant pot full of straw tied to a tree with wire. It would have been easier and safer for the mother to feed him in such a situation. thanks for doing your best.

I’m a long time birder and animal lover but the tiniest of these birds are my favorites. Thank you for sharing this amazing story.

This is the most amazing video I have ever seen! You are a hero to the beautiful hummingbirds, especially this one. I’m so glad he was able to be released. God Bless You for caring for our creatures.

Absolutely amazing! You are an angel :) I have saved many a hummingbird and it is so rewarding but this takes the cake with you holding it and the mother feeding it. LOVED THIS!

adorable!
i spotted the left wing in the beginning–where it looked like the left wing was flapping opposite the right wing. i was wondering if it was supposed to be like that on a hummingbird or if it was injured–so thanks for the clarification!
also, did you see how large the baby was compared to mom? wondering if it’s normal or if it’s because baby wasn’t flapping and burning calories?
finally…how did mom react to it being taken away, and did it get released back near mom?
thanks!

Great job Peter and the rest of the gang for taking care of Peeps; the hummingbird who was in urgent need of care! If all of us help the exotic wild life rather than poach, hunt (mainly for fur, of stuffed figurines around a house/museum for attraction) neglect, or kill them (due to the fact we just might not like them) we’d all live in peace and harmony with God’s creatures. Then God will appreciate what we do and in turn manifest nature’s true wonders! This is a good lesson for all of us!

I liked your video of Peeps, Gary. It looks like a rufous. I posted some videos myself of rufous hummingbirds at our lodge.
