I went to buy baby items today this being the first time shopping for anything because we just found out it’s a girl. I became so overwhelmed with what we will need and not need or maybe need..? We ended up buying a baby tub, baby clothes, receiving blankets, a bottle warmer, and a baby book because we were not sure what all is needed.. so confused theres just so many things it seems we need.
I am 18 wks now. Please help.. what are items I need to get now before baby (please list Everything you can think of) and what are items we wont need to a few months or so after baby is born? (All as assuming I wasn’t getting anything from family)
Thanks so much! I appreciate it!

A bed – either a crib or a bassinet, if the baby isn’t going to be bunking with you. If your buying everything yourself, i’d say go right for the crib. A baby only uses a bassinet for about 2 maybe 3 month. I moved mine to a crib as soon as they could roll over.
Clothes – winter baby’s need more sleepers, summer baby’s need more oneies.
Bottle’s – if your not going to breast feed, or if your going to pump your milk
Breast Pump – if your not going to breast feed or foruma feed.
(breast milk is best for baby, so try as long as you can)
Diapers – cloth or dispoable. I never used cloth, but my mom said you would need some type of rubber "underwear" looking thing so the pee would stay in the diaper and not get on the clothes. As a note, I would buy size one. Because you get more for your money, but for smaller babys you might want to get the newborns. I never had one smaller then 7 lbs 11 oz. (my smallest) So I just used size one. You don’t need to get these till after the baby is born, the hosptail will have daipers for you while your there.
Maybe a passy – my hosptail had these so I never had to get the frist one.
After you pick where the baby will sleep, if she’s not in the same room as you, get a baby monter.
Blankets
Since baby will be sponge bathed while the cord is on, you might want to get some baby wash clothes.
Also baby laundry soap is a good idea
Don’t for get a car seat. A lot of this stuff you can get used, or from family. But a car seat is something you should always buy new, or at least know the history of. Once a car set as been in any type of crash, yes even a fender bender, they say to buy a new one.
I can’t think of anything else you would need right away.
After the baby is born, you’ll be able to see what you need and when you need it.

Seriously… A crib, carseat, bottles (if not breastfeeding), diapers, clothes, blankets, lotions/soaps…. you don’t need everything that is listed in the books.

Make sure you have at least 3-4 onesies and 3-4 sleeper outfits. Next you’ll need diapers, and diaper wipes. A car seat to take the baby home in. Won’t need a stroller right away chances are that you’ll be to tired to want to go to much of anywhere and most new moms don’t want to share their baby with the rest of the world right away. Get some good bottles, baby shampoo, diaper rash cream, a thermometer, anything else is really not to necessary in the beginning. As long as you can feed, diaper, clean, and cloth the little one you’ll be fine.

i dont have a bottle warmer and have never used it. brody was too big for recieving blankets a week after he was born, but if you cut them in half they make GREAT large spit up rags. brody is 4 months and the "average" size of a 7 month old and he still uses his baby bath tub, i will use it until he can sit up on his own.
items you will want to have/need when baby is born [according to my experience]
– swing
– [since you are bottle feeding] bottles
– formula
– basinette or crib in your room for the first month or 2
– boppy pillow [i loved mine, your arms will get tired holding a tiny newborn and the boppy helps prop them up]
– onesies [no need for frilly outfits] and basic layette
– a few fluffy soft blankets
– binkys
– diapers
– diaper genie or some other diaper pail, ive heard the baby trend one is better but we got the genie as a gift
– scratch mittens
– soap and lotion
– CORNSTARCH based powder
stuff that wasnt used until older
– bouncy seat wasnt liked until he was about 2 months at least
– jumperoo at about 3 months
– floor mat gym thing at about 3 months
– high chair isnt needed until 4-6 months or until baby can sit up on his or her own, unless the high chair reclines.
– bumbo wasnt used until 3.5 months
– brody stopped liking his swing at about 3 months, get a used one. babies dont tend to use them for very long. im so glad i got mine as a hand me down…theyre so expensive.

You do need bottles if you are breastfeeding. You don’t need warmer anything, they don’t work well.
Baby clothes (Bigger sizes are better.) a hat, nail clippers (Unless you want to bite them off yourself)

I know there are so many choices, aren’t there? I’ve been there.
First of all, the most important thing you need is an infant carseat. you can google infant carseats and see what you want. They are available at any retailer like Target or Walmart or wherever
The first weeks with my son I used
Onesis (he practically lived in them the first few weeks)
recieving blankets -they’re handy for burping, drool control
Bottles- I breastfed and bottle fed
oh and wipes- I use the Parent’s choice wipes, they work well

I remember that feeling so well! Well, to start with, let’s talk clothes.
In the first year of life your baby will go through several outfits every day. At first it’s because you’re a new mommy and you think that little dab of spit up is yucky and you don’t want her just sitting in it, so you change her. Then she’ll overflow a diaper (it will happen, baby’s are amazing at managing this) or she’ll decide to pee/poop before you get the new diaper on her and it’ll get on her clothes. In short, you’ll be changing her a lot.
I recommend a lot of onsies. You can buy the multi-pack onesies that are just solid colors for cheap and then bulk up her wardrobe with some cute onesies that have sayings or pictures on them and other cute outfits. I also recommend at least nine pairs of pajamas (the footie kind are awesome). That way you have a pair for every day of the week plus a couple extras for those nights when accidents happen and a little poo or spit up or pee gets on her pajamas.
Other essentials for immediately after the baby is born:
1. Carseat (I know it’s obvious, but just have to put it down)
2. Diaper bag (it’ll become your new purse)
3. Diapers/wipes (you can stock up gradually on these over the course of your pregnancy. I’d get at least 4 cases of newborn diapers, 8 cases of size ones)
4. The recieving blankets I got have come in really handy as burp rags now that my daughter is too big to be swaddled in them.
5. A sound machine or heart beat machine. This came in so handy the first couple weeks. Your baby is so used to hearing a heart beat while in the womb that she may have trouble sleeping alone or staying asleep after she’s born because it’s too quiet. My best friend gave me a little machine that has several different noises from the ocean, to rainforest, to heart beat. We just set it on heart beat and it helped soothe my daughter when she had trouble sleeping.
6. Some sort of bouncer seat or swing. My daughter didn’t like the bouncer seat we got, but loved the swing we later got after she was born. You can’t hold her all the time (as much as you want to) so having something that will soothe her like the swing is a great addition.
7. Something to sleep in, whether it’s a crib, bassinet, or cradle is up to you. We used a bassinet for about 3 1/2 months and have now moved our daughter into a crib because she was getting too big for the bassinet.
8. Wash clothes and baby towels. I wouldn’t use the ones you use for yourself because they tend to be rougher than the ones made for babies and they have super sensitive skin.
9. Baby shampoo, lotion, and I strongly recommend the lavendar scented baby wash (it really works to soothe a fussy baby).
10. Thermometer. I got the pacifier one and it works great. The hospital will give you things like a nasal aspirator.
11. Nail clippers (I would even recommend taking them with you to the hospital. My step-daughter scratched herself on the nose just after birth.)
That’s all I can really think of right now. To cover the basics just remember to ask yourself this question when you’re shopping: "Will this help clean her, feed her, or clothe her?" There are of course the little extras like a baby book, that are just nice to have, but not absolutely necessary.

You actually don’t need that much, what you got so far is good! Here’s a few things that will really help:
A vibrating baby chair, it will be your babysitter when you go for a shower or the bathroom. I would also highly recommend a baby swing mine slept in there all afternoon and gave me a break!
Get a pack of baby shampoo, baby wash, lotion, diaper cream, oh and a thermometer, pacifer (trust me it’ll be a life saver!), baby tylenol!!, gripe water!!! Bottles, a bottle brush for cleaning, and nipple pads, you’ll be leaking a lot at first! I’d buy the washable ones it saves money.
Get some diapers and wipes, get size one as they really grow out of newborn diapers and don’t really need them anyways.
Changing pads, and blankets and that’s it!!!!!!

Here’s a good tip: buy extra crib sheets and water proof matress pads and layer them (I did 3 layers). When there’s an accident (espeically in the middle of the night) you just have to remove a layer instead of remove and put on clean sheets.
I never used a bottle warmer; babies don’t acutally need their formula warmed. Also a Swaddle and this book
