I am about to become a Gran for the first time and I really want to buy them something special for the baby.
I have made a basket filled with baby essentials like napppies, blankets and creams etc and have knitted a couple of cardigans and bought a few baby books.
They already have the major equipment like cots and also have lots of baby clothes already, so I would love to know what gift you received that were the most useful.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks :)

make a family tree or a family photo book with old pics and stories from the family…
P.S. my daughter got a family photo book to her 18th birthday last year and she cried.

I got a medicine kit: fever reducer, teething gel, teething tablets, saline drops, gas drops, gripe water, colic tablets, olba’s oil, with a tiny teether, and fingernail clippers. You never know when you’re going to need those things! And you don’t want to have to dash out at 2 am for any of them either :)
Maybe that paired with a helpful book. A friend of mine (mom of 2) just got one called "the portable pediatrician" by Dr. Sears – and abosolutely loves it. I also have Dr. Sear’s "The Baby Book", which I found really helpful as a new parent.
congratulations to you!

My favorite gift I got for myself, lol. It was a sling. The brand that I bought is now available at Babies R Us which it wasn’t at that time. It’s called a hotsling. I was able to carry my baby and have both hands free. It was great and I used it most of the 1st year!

Well my mom bought our crib for us, so that was the best gift. What major things do they have. Rocking chair and ottoman? Crib bedding? Swing (life saver!)? Bouncy seat? Highchair? Pack and Play? Exersaucer (Loved this thing!)? There are lots of major items that are very helpful. If they don’t have anything that I listed buy them one of those. If they have all that’s listed, maybe get mom something, like a spa gift card (I would have LOVED this). Even something like a few cases of wipes is awesome. Babies don’t grow out of wipes, which is why it makes a great gift. Just be sure to buy the sensitive ones, incase there is an allergy problem. We bought a box (which had 6 refills) every week towards the end of my pregnancy, they lasted us a long time.

I think what you have done already is enough. I would add an AVENT bath thermometer its in a flower shape and floats the the bath, our daughter is 1 and we still use it.
Congratulations x

Someone gave us a little diaper caddy that has a space for diapers and wipes, and a little drawer for things like diaper cream and anything you need. It’s really nice because in the early days we didn’t really use the changing table. We just carried the caddy around from room to room and changed her wherever we were. It was very convenient. Another thing that’s been great is the bouncy seat. My baby really likes it. But every baby is different so you never know what they’ll like.
Your gift basket idea sounds great, and I can tell you from experience that hand made things are so nice to get and always treasured. :)
