For Christmas I am sponsering a baby that is expected right around Christmas, so really "new" born. I was told to not focus on thethingslike carseats, cribs, ect because the charity is already covering that. They are looking for the other stuff to give this baby as a Christmas gift.
I dont have a baby so I could use some help shopping. thus far on my list is: onsies, pants, tops, socks, booties, hat, blanket, diapers, baby wipes, toys, bath stuff.
Anything else that you can think of that I could get to help this Mom out and make their xmas great?
Thank you everyone!

What about a baby toiletry kit? Things like nail clippers, washcloths, baby towels, soaps, a good thermometer, infant tylenol (it’s expensive for some families to purchase), diapers, diapers, diapers…
Also, a children’s book or a baby book could be a fun gift. A new baby Christmas ornament…
Crib toys are great – one that hangs on the side of the crib and has lights and sounds.
A gift certificate to a store where the parents can get pictures of their new baby. (Sears has the smile savers plan, Picture People, etc.)
Just some fun ideas. How exciting!!

Footed pajamas are great because the winter is really cold and newborns are not supposed to have blankets in the crib! Also I would get some of the stuff you do buy a little big so that you are not just helping out for the time being but in a couple of months the baby will have some good stuff still! Long sleeve onsies are also great like plain white ones! It sounds like you have a pretty good list of your own! It’s so awesome that you are being so charitable! You are AWESOME!!!!

There are also toys that are meant for the 0-3 month bracket, but try not to get anything that requires batteries.
The clothing is a great idea, try to get different sizes too, in the 3-6 month bracket. Babies grow very quickly and can be in larger diapers or clothes in almost no time at all.

Those are all good things and she can never have too many. A diaper disposal unit would be good. There’s one called diaper champ that uses regular grocery or garbage bags, I really want one of those. An infared thermometer is nice to have, they work better than the digital ones. And there’s a product called mighty tight that secures the carseat in the seatbelt, they save lives.

Lots and lots of diapers. Seriously. Wipes are important too, but you go through more diapers. Onesies and socks are a good thing to have lots of as well. Maybe a hat & jacket for winter. Hope that helps.

I would make sure the charity is not covering clothes as well. Lots of diapers is always handy… especially if you buy different sizes and keep the reciepts so that they can be exchanged for different sizes if need be.
Think of long term with whatever you buy. Rather then getting lots of things for a newborn get a few things for a newborn and things that are progressively larger… babies grow so quickly you don’t want to give them a gift that is only useful for a month.
Another option would be a voucher for a nappy service or other service that may help them out.
Hope that helps

bibs, binkies, formula, baby bottles, and electric socket protective plugs. Go to a Toys-R-Us or Target to the baby section, there will be lots of other good ideas.

Bibs, cotton blankets, baby oil for cradle cap, pacifiers, sudo cream, Silcocks base, scented diaper bags, soft towels, cotton wool, a baby monitor, a sterilizer, a bottle warmer, a bottle brush, some detergent that’s suitable for washing baby’s clothes.
Don’t go all out on toys yet. New borns cannot focus further than 12 inches so dangling a big fluffy thing in front of them will only scare them! Babies this young can only process basic colors so get them a black and white mobile for the crib. It will help the eyes develop.
And don’t forget the new mother too – nipple cream if she’s nursing, nursing pillow, dry skin cream.

You are definitely headed in the right direction with the list you have already. Just one pointer though: Don’t stick with newborn or 0-3month sizes even for diapers. Not only do babies grow quickly but the baby could be born bigger than average. My daughter was 9 pounds when she was born and everything that was newborn size didn’t fit her. So I would even go up to 3-6 and even a year. Also remember, the first year babies poop and spit up alot and the easiet thing to change them into and out of our onsies.
Just wanted to give you kudos for doing something great like this for someone else.

I know my son was born in Nov, and instead of asking for gift like toys, clothes or something like that. I had my relatives get him formula, diapers and some baby food. They are things that you need and never seem to have enough of.
Have fun shopping!

Thats such a wonderful thing for you to do! So generous. :)
Make sure you get lots of socks, for some reason, the washing machine always seems to eat my babys socks…
Perhaps a few books. Heaps of research has been done on reading to babies lately, and it is so beneficial. Just choose ones with bright, contrasting pictures and repetitive words.
A mobile for the cot. Choose one with music. Some toys for in the carseat. A toy with a mirror on it (Lamaze makes an awesome ‘mirror wedge’ toy).
Hat. Activity Gym. Teethers. Information book/magazine on raising babies for the mother. Bottles.
Massage gel for the baby (Johnsons is lavender scented for sleep). Include instructions on infant massage.
Baby sling/carrier
Bowls/spoons etc. Babies grow up so quickly, and start to eat solids at around 6 months. So, perhaps buy a ‘solids starter kit’.
A ‘snuggly’ for baby. Little teddy bear with a blanket attached.
Fisher Price Aquarium for the cot. It makes bubbles and light, and has heaps of different songs.
Photo frames for mother to put photos of baby in
Bath thermometer.
Vaporizer
Muslin wraps are an essential for swaddling babies. Get bigger ones, because the smaller size doesn’t last long.
Couple of modern cloth diapers. They are so much easier than the traditional ones.
Baby hairbrush
Baby bath seat. You can get them for newborns, so that the baby can lie down, without the parents feeling like they will drop them. I used one for my daughter, and loved it :)
Soothing sounds music CD for baby. There are ones which play ‘womb sounds’, which might be comforting.
Once again, this gesture is just lovely! I hope I could have helped you :)
